Journal Entry #3

” Even if you’re east Asian, you need to attend a top tier university to land a good high paying gig. Even if you land that high paying gig, the white guy with the pedigree from a mediocre state university will somehow move ahead of you in ranks simply because he’s white.”  (paragraph 35) This line stuck out to me because after reading this passage I learned how Asians work incredibly hard, and this sentence shows how you hard work could be disregarded because you aren’t the “American standard” and I’m sure most employers have internalized racism where they will lean more towards someone who is the standard that was created. As someone with a Hispanic family, I can understand the pressure of needing to be better than you parents and succeeding in a good high paying job.
